In comfortable surroundings where you can enjoy your break in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The Cliffs Pavillion, Adventure Island, Southend Sealife and numerous pubs and restaurants, as well as the world's longest pier are just minutes from our doorstep. Southend Airport and Train Station are only a short drive away. And a 45 minute train journey takes you to the heart of London.
We are open all year round and offer both long-term and short-term accommodation.
History of Gladstone House
Smuggler come local hero...
In the late 1800's The Gladstone Guest House was run by the famous pier keeper Mr William Bradley. Branded 'the Southend hero', he was often seen diving off the end of the pier rescuing people. This was in stark contrast to his former years when he operated as a smuggler.
A reformed character, Mr Bradley went onto receive bravery medals form the RNLI and a Royal Humane Bronze medal in 1888 for putting his life at risk to save the life of another. Mr Bradley and his proud wife fulfilled their desire of offering a 'home from home' at The Gladstone, which is how our staff continue to run this lovely historic Guest House.
